| Cherohala
Skyway |
Beginning in the small quaint town of Tellico Plains is a "mile high" skyway, whose mountain vistas will take your breath away.
It
is a true day-trippin' journey, one that should be inhaled
slowly. You
can make the journey from one end to the other
in less than an hour, or 3 to 4 hours, depending on your
rate of speed, or should we say - leisure!
The Cherohala Skyway crosses through the Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests - thus the name "Chero...hala".
Begin in Tellico Plains on the gorgeous Tellico River, and wind up and over 5,400 foot mountains for 21 miles into the deeply forested backcountry of Tennessee,
and another 15 miles into North Carolina.
The Cherohala is a
great scenic drive for
a lovely summer
or autumn day's drive....
landing in pretty Robbinsville, North Carolina. Highway 74 creates a nice loop-back option to Cleveland and Chattanooga,
through the North Carolina Mountains into Tennessee through the Ocoee Scenic Byway.

The Skyway is becoming well known in motorcycling and sportscar circles for it's long, sweeping corners and scenic views.
It can be cold and cloudy riding the mountain ridges,
so make sure you dress properly, even in the summer months.
You may be caught in pea soup fog, thick clouds, and bone chilling temperatures.
The mile-high ride
is always a new and unforgetable experience.
