2006 Featured Performer
J.D.Crowe
While just a teenager in the mid-50’s, J.D. Crowe
began his pioneering contributions to the bluegrass world
as part of Jimmy Martin’s Sunny Mountain Boys.
His mastery of the banjo, harmony singing and bluegrass tradition
still inspires young musicians half a century later.
Crowe’s debut album with the New South, released on Rounder Records in 1975,
is widely recognized to be
one of the most important recordings in the bluegrass genre.
“We are very happy to have another one of the legends of bluegrass coming to our festival,” said John Everhart, festival co-chair. “We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to book musicians that fans have admired and respected for years, the masters who helped shape the genre of bluegrass music.”
